So yesterday it actually decided to be spring! (today not so much, but that's beside the point) Since I was nannying for the twins (they are 14 months old and all kinds of fun!), we went for a nice long walk around the neighborhood and then came back to play in the front yard.
Now one twin (we'll call her Baby Girl) is walking but her brother (Baby Boy) is not in the same kind of rush to get mobile. I guess he figures he'll let his sister do all the exploring and report back to him and should it be worth getting up for- he'll just crawl on over. We're working on the motivation but for now it's okay only have to chase after one baby at a time. So Baby Girl is running around the yard laughing at the fact that she is a brilliant baby girl who has mastered walking while I sit Baby Boy down on the sidewalk next to a pile of dirt.
Understand this about Baby Boy- he does not like textures. At all. Meals time that involve anything outside of bread and baby food are painful. So dirt was a new experience. He stepped in it. And then stepped back. Then stepped back in it. And stepped back again. After we did this dance for a few steps, Baby Boy decided dirt was good and plopped himself right in the middle of the dirt. Success! In a few short minutes he was happily letting dirt pour through his fingers and cover his cute little boy overalls.
Meanwhile, Baby Girl is chasing butterflies and sitting in her own pile of dirt being well- adorable Baby Girl. Then I turn back to Baby Boy and there is dirt all over his face...and in his mouth. Really?!? Baby won't eat bananas but seems to enjoy dirt. All I could do is laugh- and wipe his face.
Then I sat down next to him and thought, "what a great day!" If I had a "real job," I certainly couldn't sit outside in sunshine at 3pm on a Tuesday. Maybe if I was a park ranger. But then's there's the uniform and that wouldn't work on No Pants Thursdays. Oh well.
But I love what I'm doing right now- I get to watch little people experience the world for the first time. First steps (Baby Boy took 4 yesterday!) First words (Baby Accountant (more on him in another post) has new ones every day). I like firsts, I like change. I have a job full of firsts and ones where the people I work with are changing and growing in front of my very eyes.
That's what I want in a job- to see people grow and change. It's what I loved about taking college kids to Honduras. It's what I love about getting youth involved with service learning. It's all about helping people see the world in a new light. Until I find that job, I'll stick to teaching babies to walk and not eat too much dirt...

all Marty's fault
So really this started because it's naptime in nanny world and I'm doing what I do everyday at this time- talk to Marty while she's bored at work. And our new favorite pasttimes- playing on craiglist and reading various blogs. When your job doesn't require a lot of thinking, you have time for all sorts of things..
I guess that really is the essence of this blog- being twenty something and deciding where to throw out an anchor. I'm glad not to be a lawyer, a thief, or a banker. I'm grateful for a job that lets me play outside and not sit at a desk and makes me laugh, so for now I'll just cruise along and we'll see where we go...
